Tuff-N-Nuff Offers Pipeline Rockshield With Active Corrosion Inhibitor

Tuff-N-Nuff is now offering a Pipeline Rockshield with an “Active Corrosion Inhibitor,” aptly called Tuff-N-Nuff-ACI, (TNN-ACI).

The TNN-ACI employs vapor phased corrosion science in the inhibitor. Vapor phased corrosion inhibitors have been used by the military and private industry for decades to prevent corrosion of machinery and machined surfaces. The environmentally friendly inhibitor is mixed into the Tuff-N-Nuff compound at a specific portion. The compound is then extruded into the finished Tuff-N-Nuff Rockshield. Corrosion inhibiting ions are emitted from the TNN-ACI in a manner similar to an air freshener. The ions settle into all surfaces, recesses and cavities in relative proximity to the source. Upon contact, the ions condense, forming an anticorrosive layer that is 1 to 2 molecules thick.

Company officials say the ACI layer prohibits rust on any exposed steel or holiday in the pipe coating. Tuff-N-Nuff says the application of vapor phased corrosion inhibitors to protect underground pipelines is a new concept. Therefore, ACI is not meant as a replacement for nor is it an alternative to cathodic protection. TNN-ACI is designed to offer additional protection using technology with a history of success.
