Duke Energy To Build Gas Pipeline

Duke Energy is exploring conversion of two of the units at its Gallagher power plant from coal to gas. The steps would reduce emissions at the New Albany, IN electric power plant and improve air quality in the region. During a time of increasingly stringent environmental regulations, the project would help ensure that Gallagher Station can continue to supply energy to the region.
  As part of the conversion, Duke Energy plans to install 19 miles of 20-inch diameter pipeline to transport natural gas to the station. The pipeline will begin at a new interconnection with Texas Gas near Kosmosdale in Jefferson County, KY. Duke Energy is proposing the pipeline run west, under the Ohio River, to Harrison County. The pipeline then turns north toward the Gallagher power plant and would run parallel to the river, using existing utility and roadway corridors wherever possible.
  If Duke Energy proceeds with the conversion, the company anticipates submitting plans to local, state and federal agencies in 2011, with construction beginning in May 2012 and completion on Oct. 1, 2012.
