CRC-Evans Provides Welding Equipment On Mid-Continent Express Pipeline Spreads

CRC-Evans Automatic Welding provided external welding equipment for a 202.5-mile section of the Midcontinent Express Pipeline constructed in Mississippi. Now completed, the 507-mile Midcontinent Express Pipeline, a joint venture of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and Energy Transfer Partners, delivers natural gas from Oklahoma, across northeast Texas, northern Louisiana, central Mississippi and into Alabama.
  Three contractors worked on the Mississippi section of the MEP:  MG Dyess completed 65 miles (Spread 8); North Houston Pole Line completed 73 miles (Spread 9); and Henkels & McCoy completed 64.5 miles. The contractors chose various combinations of the CRC-Evans Internal Welding System and External Welding System utilizing the P260 External Welder and the P600 External Welder.  On the Mississippi section, CRC-Evans equipment completed a total of 13,160 welds in the 36-inch-diameter pipeline.
  CRC-Evans says its IWM provides faster and more accurate welds in the field by combining lineup mechanisms and an internal welder that automatically deposits the root bead in 1.25 minutes. The P260 External Welder provides tip-to-work tracking, 32-pass programmable welding, PDA downloads in the field, and position-based parameter control.  The P600 External Welder has single or dual-torch operation, through-the-arc tracking, onboard data collection, and touch screen control. These external systems used CRC-Evans Copper Back-up Clamps to deposit more consistent, higher quality external root beads with normal pipe alignment.
